This project is intended
to provide designated branches of the Hawaii
Department of Health with technical support,
training, and advice regarding the planning
and performance of epidemiologic investigations
to assess potential public health concerns.
The specific issue currently being addressed
is the continuing eruption of the Kilauea
volcano on the island of Hawaii, and the
potential for respiratory health effects
in children living downwind of the volcano.
To provide needed exposure assessment, two
ground-based monitoring stations have been
established. These exposures will be linked
to measures of morbidity and mortality in
Hawaiian children. |
